Kickball
Adult co-ed action at Diamond City Park, spring through summer.
Overview
All games are played at Diamond City Park, 333 Madison St. in Wilkes-Barre, across from Dan Flood Elementary School.
Rules
- 9-inning or 55-minute games
- Extra innings:
- No additional runner in the 10th
- Runner on 1st in the 11th
- Runners on 1st & 2nd in the 12th
- Bases loaded in the 13th
- 10-player max roster:
- Ages 13+
- No more than 2 players under 18 per team
- Players:
- Minimum of 3 players per game
- A team with fewer than 4 players may pick up 1 player from another team (who can field and run bases)
- 3 fielders and a pitcher; one fielder may play as a catcher
- A team may bat its entire roster
- Batting:
- A batter may not pass the plate to kick (each instance is a strike; strike three is an out)
- The ball must pass the painted arch to be fair (otherwise a foul; the fourth foul is an out)
- Home runs:
- 3 home runs per regulation game, per team
- Each team is awarded 1 additional home run in extra innings
- Unused home runs from regulation carry over
- Exhausted home runs result in an out; if the fielding team hits it over the fence, it’s a double
- Outs & dead balls:
- Rubber/Mound ball: a fielder must reach the rubber before the base runner; a lead runner not advancing is out; the ball is dead; runners past the halfway point are awarded the pursuing base
- Double play: a player may tag the base for the first out and throw to the rubber; cannot occur if the first out came via the rubber or a plug/tag
- Plugs/tags: tagging or plugging a runner with the ball is an out; a bouncing plug that hits a runner off base is an out; the ball is dead after a plug/tag; no plugs to the head while a runner is upright (runner is safe); a plug to the head on a slide is an out
- Infield fly: may be called by the batting team; the ball is dead; no runners advance
- Players become playoff-eligible after playing one regular-season game
- A 20-run mercy rule takes effect after the second inning
Any ruling not covered follows baseball rules as closely as possible, at the council’s discretion.
